10 Quotes to Help Conquer Your Burnout
At Her Bags Were Packed, we want to help women unpack their emotional baggage and learn to live life to its fullest. A lot of times we discuss how to do this through solo travel, which can be very eye-opening and healing. But sometimes, our emotional wellbeing requires a more direct conversation.
That’s why over the last few weeks we’ve been going through a series on the idea of burn out. We interviewed Dr. Kate Steiner, a leading expert in recognizing and recovering from burn out, we shared some great burn out resources and journaling prompts for burn out, and even shared a restorative yoga session for burn out.
Today with the help of our panel of mental health professionals we’ve rounded up 10 quotes about burnout, some from recent posts and conversations, others from outside resources. We hope that these help you through your own journey of burn out recovery.

“In order to break the cycle of burnout, it is important to observe and identify your burn events, prepare for those you can identify, and recover from each.” -Dr. Kate Steiner
“Many of us have been running all our lives. Practice stopping.” -Thich Nhat Hanh
“Rest is, quite simply, when you stop using a part of you that’s used up, worn out, damaged, or inflamed, so that it has a chance to renew itself.”-Emily Nagoski
“An activity that allows you to use your imagination is an antidote to burnout.” - Jardin Dogan
“The problem is not that women don’t try. On the contrary, we’re trying all the time, to do and be all the things everyone demands from us.” -Emily Nagoski
“A moment of self-compassion can change your entire day. A string of such moments can change the course of your life.” -Christopher K. Germer
“Burnout is due to a lack of respect for your personal boundaries.” -Author Unknown
“Most of us have spent our whole lives being taught to believe everyone else's opinions about our bodies, rather than to believe what our own bodies are trying to tell us. For some of us, it's been so long since we listened to our bodies, we hardly know how to start understanding what they're trying to tell us, much less how to trust and believe what they're saying. To make matters worse, the more exhausted we are, the noisier the signal is, and the harder it is to hear the message.” -Emily Nagoski
“It can be tempting, in our goal-oriented society, to push ourselves beyond our capacities in pursuit of success. But when we do this we tell ourselves that our work is more important than our health. Without our health our success means nothing. No promotion, no raise, no accolade will mean anything if you aren’t happy and healthy.” -Olivia Kram
“It's very individualized. There is no one path or direction from burnout, no specific formula to no longer experience burnout. It has to be based on yourself, and what you're experiencing, and what your self-care practices are, and what recovery looks like for you.” Dr. Kate Steiner
